Save Me A Place At The Table

Save me a place at the table,
It’s ok, I can pull out my own chair,
I’ll happily share, whilst I’m still able,
When others are speaking, you won’t know I’m there,
We can talk into the wee small hours if you want?
Thrash out the big questions, set the world to rights,
Express our gratitudes and our disappointments,
Lick our wounds and pick our fights,
Chase all the, “rabbits,” down their holes,
Chase away the clouds of regret,
Chase all the tired flags up their weary poles,
Chase the day from Sunrise to Sunset,
So save my place at the table ,
It sounds like just the place I need to be,
And we can share our thoughts for as long as we’re able,
Take all the mystery out of our history,
And in those times when we tire of talking,
We can quietly sit and break bread,
Let patience and humour sit at the sides,
Let love and good grace sit at the head,
And one day, when we have had our fill,
Drank all we can drink, ate all we can eat,
Politely, we’ll make our excuses,
And quietly give up our precious seat.
