Late at night

I hear a voice singing

faintly in the other room

she sings to a tune she knows

so perfectly

such a pleasant lilting sound

in the calm of evening

as I lay down to sleep

a song means someone is happy

lifting the spirit of

the singer and the one who listens

a song is the soul

come to life

her voice a thing of beauty

she sings from her heart

in octaves of joy

she sings me to sleep.
