Covid Christmas

These days it’s hard to watch the news,

for every day there’s new taboos

that only bring on lockdown blues

on everyone;

and still we shop in distanced queues;

it’s just no fun.

This year the future’s looking grey,

and greetings cards can only say

a happy Covid Christmas Day

to me and you;

if it will all just go away,

we’ll start anew.

Yet even when the vaccine’s here,

there’s many will refuse in fear;

would you be first to volunteer

to get the jab?

They’re scared that they might end the year

upon a slab.

Although I understand their stance,

I think that I would take my chance.

While you may look at me askance,

in my defence,

with my own special circumstance

it’s common sense.

So is it safe, or a mistake,

because sometimes the news is fake,

it is your future that’s at stake

and that’s unknown.

The final choice is yours to make,

and yours alone.

There have been dozens if not hundreds of poems on here about Covid, most of them predictable and frankly not very good. Yours however Trevor is well constructed with a rarely used rhyming structure which lifts it above the others.

Excellent in both content and form. Most enjoyable - with an important message to boot!
