i need to decorate a peg

Each year when I was a little girl we decorated wooden pegs at school with our names on to keep our wellies together for playtime. The boys and the girls designed their own. I don’t remember anyone else’s peg at all, only my own peg was important with flowers and patterns down the edge and the peg head always one solid colour.

Plans for playtime
Coats smelling like wet dog
Jammie dodgers crumbled in the pockets
One two three whip,
What time is it Mr. Wolf,
Kiss chase,
Flecks of colour in the home knitted jumpers on the boys
Three little pearl buttons at the neck
I’m the king of the castle
I like coffee, I like tea, I like Janet in with me
Throwing balls in the air how many times can you clap before they come down again?

My life has barely changed, all I really need to do is to decorate a peg to keep my wellies together for playtime.

Yeh Isobel - our crayon chewer was Gwyn Price! Why on earth do I remember that! Maybe if we'd eaten crayons or stuffed them up our noses we'd be remembered for all time.

We had one (Michael Jordan) who stuffed a fat crayon up his nose and had to go to hospital to have it removed. Amazing that I can still remember his name, when I can't remember people I'm introduced to 5 minutes ago now - scary in fact.

I really like this Carole. Infant school seems like yesterday sometimes! I always remember there was a boy who used to eat crayons! Wonder what happened to him!
