Deflated

Plastic bag on the table

jewelled colours within

I choose emerald green

stretch out before I begin

Deep breath and blow

repeat with all my might

hot air trapped inside

the skin taut and tight

I risk one more breath

careful, slow and steady

reaching full potential

I think now it is ready

I grasp on to the end

twisted fingers fumbling

try to tie a tight knot

clumsy and bumbling

I hold it up in admiration

plump yet feather light

ample, buoyant, bulbous

sealed, full and airtight

Admiring my hard work

feeling pleased, elated

proud of the end result

now perfectly inflated

My joy was short lived

when it caught on a pin

out escaped the hot air

that had been held within

My bubble was truly burst

my pride and joy, ill fated

shrivelled, shredded, torn

like my dreams now deflated

Great description of a balloon Julie. It's the twisty long ones I struggle with!

Great poem Julie. The long ones are the most difficult, balloons I mean.
