Moon lies

entry picture

Sweet moon, answerable for much heartbreak

from the lies your silvery beams induce.

'I'll love you forever'

until cockcrow next morning.

'Never met anyone like you before'

the many 'others' all discarded.

'This is love at first sight'

  on sighting the gleaming Porsche.

'This time it's for always'

or until the first black eye.

'You'll never be alone again'

as long as you pay the mortgage.

'You alone can really turn me on'

to avoid a quick good night on the doorstep.

The hot sun dries up the falsely loving words,

which become washed away by early showers

or frosted hard iceblue on winter mornings.

Thanks also Stephen and Elizabeth for the likes. Amusing to see how many people evidently can relate to 'moon lies', evidently very common among us!!! Have to admit telling one or two myself. Is giving someone the wrong phone no. one?

Thanks also to Shifa and Philipos for the likes and comments. Evidently we can all find something in this list! Not all, at least, reality, but also from other people's experience, and I have always had a cynical streak! Thanks again, Jennifer

Beautifully crafted! The pain, the longing, the vulnerability, everything hits hard.

Jennifer am quite moved by this poem as it bespeaks of much lingering hurt, if it is in fact reality, as I suspect it might be.

Platitudes would seem inappropriate - not becoming a repeat victim might be if you know somebody in that position.

My blessings to whoever it is, and thank you for sharing this poem.

Love can be very painful for some, emotionally and/or physically.

Don't blame it on the moonlight

Jennifer Malden, you did great work here.

It is heartbreaking to find out that love proclamation are sugar-coated lies.

Love is truly beyond words but can't do without it.
