CHECHNYAN FUGITIVE

A love made stronger

through desperation and fear

not a word spoken between them

      at the airport lounge.

Arrival with belongings on his back

the pale young man clasping the other

bigger, stronger, equally bereft.

Fugitives from normality

deprived of rights

haunted by separated lonely nights

and now the questions begin

why and how,

where will they go?

answers that only the helpers know.

Thanks Stephen for looking in and liking.

Jennifer, thanks so much. I rewrote this to make it more immediate. Heartbreaking stuff as you rightly say. (re Mark's comment).

Great writing Ray! There are so many people fleeing from brutal regimes nowadays, it's heartbreaking. Your poems always give us food for thought.

Was this inspired by a very recent late evening documentary on TV?
It was riveting television, with ordinary people facing extreme risks
and taking the same to escape from a brutal unforgiving regime...
