Mirlees Fields

I hear the odd train passing Notice that planes are no longer the background noise The sound of birds flapping and chirping amplified Dominating the skyline once more Close eyes to listen to the rustling and swaying trees Such a cool sound indeed Butterflies bob and weave overhead Stillness unknown before Suddenly thoughts halted by the sirens that whiz by Can see a family flying a kite Father and son talk on a stroll Pram pushers, bike riders and tree climbers Kids with a ball Takes me back to a game of one touch with my mate Paul The clearest of blue skies Not a vapour trail to be seen Hornets, at least I think they are that hover close by People with time chin-wagging away At a safe distance I hasten to say 'How you diddling' the introduction of choice Then 'lovely to see you guys' signals farewell Getting used to having no routine A time to pause, reflect and reconnect Be thankful for all we have What others do Hats off to them all for standing so tall Appreciating the important things that are here to stay Simplicity the way
