Boys and grandpas

have much in common

neither of us plays close attention

to what we're doing

and so while we're eating

we drip food off our plates

and onto our clothes

then the mother or wife always comes to the rescue

with a brush and stain remover and a lot of elbow grease

and with a warning to be more careful

and pay attention to what we're doing

but boys and grandpas

just don't get it

in the case of boys

it's because they eat too fast

and are easily distracted

in the case of grandpas

it's because they don't see too good

and their hand/eye coordination is off

either way they leave a trail of debris

under their kitchen chairs

and stains on their clothing

sure signs that we are kin

and have common cause

in making messes.
