A single word;
a phrase or gesture

of wondrous rapture.
To be told that you're worth
more than the drifting sands
that daily slip through
your trembling hands.
To be surrounded
by such appreciative people
makes me want to shout
from the highest steeple.

Mt. Washington Cave People
We didn't have enough money to live in a cave at the top of the hill. Up high where the waves didn't crash. Where the exhaust foam didn't break upon the sidewalk shore. Where the sand-crab-ass bottle and can hoarders were too tired and hungry to climb for the bounty of a holiday party or a tuesday night's unwarranted yet ever welcomed celebration of our ability to purchase even count boxes of beer...

Ruins
Ruins loom, undressed
in the space between here and then
what life still clings to them
hangs loose and bellowing
Ruins stand their ground
battered by crosswinds
shifted perspectives, altered light
shadows lengthen and diminish
I tried to be good
did what I could, spinning plates
painted with faces
of all the friends that came to me
Now there are absences
and there are ruins
...
