Hello Joshua - I don't think we have met before. Thank you for your comments on my latest. Your analysis is correct. It is rather a sad one, doubting the existence of 'true love' - the evidence is so scant...
I see from your poetry that you are a very deep thinker for one so young - that is so good to see. I wish you every success with your songwriting and poetry.

Hi Ann, thanks for your response.
I'm a dog, like a faithful Labrador, loyal and a little too trusting sometimes which causes me all kinds of inner turmoil but as i grow, i'm becoming more accepting of who i am and a bit less accepting of those who would take advantage of my good nature and generally take the p**s. :-)

My whole outlook on life has changed very recently and i'm enjoying the changes so my poem does reflect that for my Chinese symbol.
The ''element'' does make a difference to characteristics in an individual. Some of the websites you look up only ask for the year of birth but the date and month gives a more 'in-depth' and i feel, more accurate assessment.

The poem was written purely as an exercise for me to practice writing in a more technical fashion. Not sure if anyone has noticed that or simply don't want to comment on the technical aspects. I can't blame them really. I've given them all some flack in the past on here. :-)
I wrote a piece which has a more spiritually guided influence but it wouldn't be suitable for this website as it isn't poetry.

thank you Rachel. That would be a big clue to gender then..ahh lots of tiny cats.. Who was more suprised you or Ronan I wonder?..Our little cat had a kitten once, just one,a thing tinier than her,she didn't know what to do with it,we had to wrap it in a flannel and put it in front of the stove to keep it warm. She got used to it and was a great mum. I once saw a stuffed cat in a weird collection above a garage in Kirkby Stephen,it was playing a very small harp, gave me nightmares for years.thanks again, debx

Hi Cynthia

Thanks for leaving the comment on The Tide. The poem could be about anyone really, but is actually about my wife's mother, She became increasingly difficult to deal with over the years, and for some reason she always seem to feel she had been cheated of some idealised life she deserved, yet never really made the most of the one (the only one) she had. Sad really.

Thanks for your suggestions for rhymes...most invigourating. I've just been railing (on another thread) against the tired pairings of words that tend to inhabit some poet's canons. I can see you've given it some serious thought!

: )

One day I really will get to grips with something really sensual...honest, I will, but every time I have tried so far it has always seemed just...I dunno...naff. I need to loosen up a bit. I tried writing some 'Agusta lite' the other day...and it just ended up sounding like...Augusta lite. Certainly wasn't a poem, by any of the measures that I employ anyway.

Might send you some one day...and see what you think.

Keep up the great work.

Jx

Re your problems finding a rhyming word for 'cunnilingus'- have just been musing on it - I like to muse...How about:- love lost lingers, gun slingers, aer lingus, sticky fingers, dead ringers, nasty mingers, sexy singers, pads with wingers, anal clingers.. have I exhausted the possibilities? Look forward to see how you are getting on. x

Thanks for your comment on The Tide and the Light, Dave. Have been enjoying the gritty realism in your recent poems, although sorry about your car, of course. If it's any consolation, the same thing happens in leafy Surrey. My daughter's boyfriend down from Manchester had his hub caps pinched when he came to visit us, and my son's car was broken into outside our house just a couple of months ago. Greg

Q- "I don't see how Vanilla Sex is talking 'dirty'. What is your definition of 'dirty'?
A - "well-not a lot of women seem to like the word cunt for a start - they seem to think that this good old anglo-saxon is rather demeaning. "Dirty" wasn't meant in a bad way anyway - did you ever hear about Woody Allen being asked if he thought sex was dirty? he replied - "only if it's done right" which just about sums it up for me (at least) :) B

Re Collision Course - thanks for commenting. I wrote this yesterday and didn't really like it. It's not a very "me" poem maybe. I did ponder long and hard about "cum" as it's a word I don't like the sound of! As to gender specific, I guess I was looking on blood as being more of a woman's word somehow.

Best before end had some good images in it. I listened to the recorded piece too and you have a mellifluous diction which for a midlander is quite hypnotic. You've worked really hard at your poetry and I know from my own book launch and tour it is harded to maintain an identity than to get one so I want to congratulate you on your successes mate.

Naughty but nice Banksy. I bet the only gaps you find now are in your hairline or teeth... in fact looking at the evolution of the species, you might just struggle to fit a palm anywhere, let alone without touching. After reading you and Cynthia, I definitely feel inspired to write something risque... xx
Some women just do have that particular "gap" morphology.
Write away - we're all waiting to hear what women really want - we now know what cynthia wants ;)

Hi cynthia - irony - in both yours & my poems (vanilla) - its difficult to know how much to tell the reader - I've been accused of being both too obtuse & then again too obvious - it is a difficult balance to get right. I liked your poem because sometimes it's good to hear a woman talk dirty & just come out with it & say what she actually wants. In my poem the last verse is the reply from the woman saying that Her desires are darker still.

Cynthia, thanks for your generous and thoughtful comments on The Tide and the Light. You're right, it has taken some time to emerge in this form. A version of the first stanza was written as a poem in its own right three years ago, a paean of praise to the modernist De La Warr Pavilion at Bexhill; my impressions on seeing it when I was alone. Last year I added the rest.

Hi Ann,

Thank-you for the tip. I'm not sure how that works. Here is a poem for you to read.

Carrying you

There is an eternity in that hand
when your fingers wrap around
the shakier experience of mine.

You feed, stop, smile, and look
so new into the old corrupt world.

You look into our eyes and just
register above the moon of food.
Your mother’s breast glides you
punch-drunk through the waves
of her nourishing milk-ocean.

The feast strengthens, empowers,
the great quench ennobles us all.

We are your parents, the well
that nourishes you, you disarm us.

We look at those small moments,
a mosaic-microcosm of you,
and we relish the tiny achievements.

Each step of development, we go
with you in awe of the wondrous,
of the greatest goal, of the banal.

And our prize is your smile,
the scent of your wisp of hair,
the touch from the minute
in those hands already creased,
folded for the toil ahead of you.

Our burden is to lessen the load
on your soft back.
We carry you happily
in the embrace of hope.

I paint with you in my arms.
I paint the future and carry you with me.
