Lockdown drills

are the only time we’re sanctioned
to huddle with children 

as we don’t have any white
male students it’s hard to imagine 

who’d be a mass shooter
perhaps Mr. Dobkin, 

the science teacher 
who always seems upset

It’s hard not to giggle with the kids 
under desks with the lights off

I guess the drills are a good preparation for bouts of sudden closeness, 

shocks, and ludicrous situations 
awaiting us in the next decade
