Our Father

Our Father

whom we greatly trust is in heaven,

respected be thy name,

as we should respect

the names of other gods.

Do not tarry long in coming

as thy will is not being done on earth,

though hopefully in heaven.

Give everyone their daily bread

and forgive us our many sins

only if we sincerely repent

and do not repeat them.

Help us to avoid the evil temptation

to make war on the poor and unfortunate,

to use them to fight our common enemies

and then abandon them to theirs.

To exploit their resources

for our countries' advantage

while they receive nothing.

To enjoy the mindless cruelty

of the terrible violence and indifference

so characteristic of our times.

And as thou art all-powerful

we implore thee to change

what is happening in this world today,

for the glory that is thine.

Thanks Lisa and Robert for the likes and Philipos for the appreciative comment. If anything things were worse in past ages, but we didn't have the sight of the injustices, cruelties and general indifference to horrors that we now see on the news every day. Corpses are shown at lunchtime and there is no respect at all for their relations' feelings.

We have become immunised against pity, decency and compassion. The bloodier the better as it attracts a bigger audience.

Ah Jennifer - nobly put - but t'was ever thus I'm afraid - and a good unpacking though of the Lord's prayer - let's hope he has a listening ear these days. Blessings. P. ?
