The Real Casualties.

         THE REAL CASUALTIES.

Many Vietnamese civilians died in the war.

The My Lai Massacre was one for sure.

Lt. Calley and his men.

Wiped out a whole village by ten.

Bodies in a hooch lot’s in a ditch.

Ordered by Calley, that son of a bitch.

He thought it was hostile, no guns were found.

None in the hooch, none on the ground.

A Helicopter pilot disobeyed an order.

He couldn’t stand to see the slaughter.

A Paddy Daddy with his hoe and ox.

Was slippery and sly, just like a fox.

Sometimes a hoe then a gun.

Shot down a Helicopter, got the job done.

Children come around, with a basket of fruit.

Grenade inside, but they look so cute.

Who were the enemy, civilian alike.

A young girl running, or a man on a bike.

Hiding in a hooch, in a hole under the bed.

Booby trap above the door, BOOM! Your dead.

In the cities, it was just the same.

Like some evil nasty game.

Bicycle bomb, was Charlie’s favourite trick.

The frame filled with plastic.

Shoeshine box, left in a bar.

A hand grenade, thrown out of a car.

A satchel bomb, thrown from a scooter.

All the time, beeping his hooter.

Many civilians were killed this way.

Even when bombs went astray.

In the villages, you could not tell.

So they burned it, and blew up the well.

VC came in at night.

Took all the young men, off to fight.

The children, the old, the sick and the lame.

Were not good enough, to play Charlie’s game.

VC took their animals and their rice.

Once a week, or sometimes twice.

People today, are still being maimed.

To know what to look for, they must be trained.
