A Face In The Looking Glass

There is a face in the looking glass,

No need to disguise it, I don't recognise it,

There is a face in the looking glass, looking back at me.

There is a face in the looking glass,

It's lines and it's tension, are too grim to mention,

There is a face in the looking glass, as clear as it can be.

There is a face in the looking glass,

The street grime is streaked, from the tears at it's cheeks,

There is a face in the looking glass, it stares back emptily.

There is a face in the looking glass,

It once had a home, and was not forced to roam,

There is a face in the looking glass, it's name is refugee.

Thanks Jennifer, there but for the grace of God eh. It's a difficult topic to write about without people taking it politically at the moment, so had to choose the words carefully.

Loved this one Jason. Very sympathetic without being mawkish. 'It onc e had a home and was not forced to roam.'

Not really Don. I wrote as if it was me. I've met quite a lot of refugees and often thought, "What if it was the other way round?" Don't get me wrong, I've also met a lot of unpleasant people who pretend to be refugees when they're actually economic migrants. It's a shame, because there are genuinely those fleeing oppression and murder who struggle to get a fair hearing now. Thanks for liking.

So good in so many ways Jason. I gather the refugee was you?
