HEAVY BAG

HEAVY BAG

heavy
bag
hung in
the way
on my
toes
in defensive
pose
shadow
boxed
a
paradox
when down
took kicks
blocked
the hits
hands
up
here comes
the upper cut
against
the ropes
losing
hope
down for
the count
back i
bounced
could barely
stand
but had
a plan
twelfth
round
opening
found
never
blinked
took the
final swing
won the
belt
with a knockout
i dealt
was the
underdog
shook off
the fog
in the
end
champion
always
train
on a
heavy bag
stay in
shape
at my
fighting weight
just in
case
another opponent
to face
may
be
a small
victory
but it was
earned honestly
now that
it's done
gonna keep the
title i won

Hello Cindylee,

I skipped over this a few times having noticed the title. I was thinking about the words "Heavy bag" and remembering that George Foreman usually and often trained on a heavy bag I had to come back to it.

I like the way you have constructed the poem, the words hanging like a bag, they also swing rhythmically like a well struck bag.

I note that most of your poems on here are constructed similarly, so I'm not sure how intentional the form is.

I like that it might indicate a knowledge of the act beyond the words.

David.
