CHAMP

CHAMP

remember wearing
that belt
how good
being best felt
were the
town's toast
celebrated with
a roast
walked down
the street
gushed over by
fans you'd meet
in public's
eye
bright shining
light
earned crowning
glory
became yesterday's
story
pushed aside
marginalized
used to
ask
for a
photograph
lots of
hanger's on
now they're
all gone
question your
value
no one to
pose with you
try to
fill time
keep busy
hands and mind
visit the
gym
oh look
he's here again
reign at
the end
no longer
fit in
once had
fame
barely know
your name
only getting
in the way
told to
go home
a knockout
blow
feel washed
up
removed gloves
and cup
better than
a never was
if only
because
you're a
has been
done what most
can only dream
leaves you
sore
not recognized
anymore
antsy
out of sorts
still plenty in
life's store
could write
a book
those lightning kicks
that left hook
having the
right stuff
growing up
a street tough
you were
champ
always have
that
can't move forward
looking back
