BOX OF CLOTHES

BOX OF CLOTHES

you'll be
history
one day
soon
what will your life
say about you
don't wanna be
boxes of clothes
dusty memories
hope to be
more than debris
watched two
women
come to
their end
all they left
was facebook
sad friends
helped husbands
pack
clothes and
photographs
thought to myself
must be more than that
want to be more
than a box to Goodwill
want to be more
than shredded cards and bills
what can i leave
behind
when i last
close my eyes
what can
i be
than a faded
memory
those keeping me
in mind
one day too
will also die
when they
do
i'll vanish
like a pouf
don't wanna dissipate
like a cloud
wanna do something
make myself proud
what can i leave
bigger than me
what will they read
about me in history
will they say my name
Cindy Lee
or forgotten will i be
just dust in the breeze
thought a lot lately
about legacy
even more about destiny
this short life
is flying by
it'll be over
in the blink  of an eye
what about myself
will i show
when they sift
through my things and clothes
will they
read
my books
and poetry
what about me
will they know
when this body
finally goes
material stuff
ends in a crate
want to create
before it's
too late
there's still
time
to get
it right
as i get old
continue to grow
writing and sharing
what i've learned and know
we all can't
paint
be named
saints
but each of us
can leave
an impactful
legacy
growing new trees
keeping oceans clean
planting milkweed
to bring back the bees
we can literally
help save humanity
don't wanna end
on a used store shelf
let's be bigger
than ourselves
may not
be much
but if another
my word's touch
then it's all
been worthwhile
i can leave here
with a smile
