FEAR

FEAR

what is fear
false evidence
appearing real
hard not to react
to things we feel
so much
to fear
things we can't see
swear we hear
things far away
and very near
since start
of time
fear's tricked
eyes and minds
didn't know
what something was
labelled it
monstrous
what's that shadow
is someone there
thought i saw a figure
probably the glare
under the bed
something moved
just in my head
did you hear it too
make up spooky stories
ghosts exist most certainly
why make up creatures
enough to fear in reality
there is a shadow
it's your own
reminding you
you're frightened to the bone
fear to be yourself
live out your dreams
fear of expresssion
to really be seen
fear rejection
from strangers and loved ones
fear judgement
being abandoned...socially shunned
want others to like us
to fit in
become self conscious
start acting like them
afraid to stand out
afraid to be teased
dress like others
so they'll be pleased
reel in
edit ourselves
hopes and dreams
being shelved
if you could
would you write a book
choose your subject
have a hook
or paint
if you had time
go offline
those moments
you will find
lots of excuses
busy...house is a mess
really comes down
to living fearless
what would you do
if you didn't fear you'd fail
don't hold back
dream is wind in your sail
friends will love you
for all you are
the truly dedicated
glitter to your star
would you place
 a bet
on life after
death
i certainly
would not
why gamble
give life your best shot
what's there
to fear
doing what you want
while you are here
is it being
ridiculed
you"ll feel
more a fool
living life through
afraid of you
on your epitaph
will you go out with a bang
leaving loved ones to laugh
at the lack of your shame
will they say
you were safe...a little shallow
never really lived
afraid of your own shadow
or looked in the eye
all of your fears
reached for the sky
while you were here
