Cornish Holiday

entry picture

The key with it’s number tag.

Ours for the week!

The slightly damp chalet,

the scratchy grey blankets.

A pink flash of foxgloves

at melting green windows.

Pastel blue egg cups

found in musty cupboards

with glass salt and pepper pots,

a dish for the trifle.

Jazzy grey lino

and bunk-bed excitement.

Rainy-day puppet shows

with toys playing lead.

Phantom of the Opera

with Lambie and Kermit.

Grandma goes missing

on her way to the village.

Comes back quite frightened

for what is to come.

The week - gone so quickly.

It’s off back to London

with sand in our socks

and pink noses stinging.

Back next year maybe

if I can afford it.

It’s nice to be home though

where two cats are waiting.

Seems so long ago now.

Our Cornish holiday.

This made my memories of cornwall tangible again - our little getaway in porthtowan.

Good control of images the beautiful, the kitsch and the sense of a spiritual home, a sweet indulgence for sure.
