Letting Go of the Lotus Flower (14\\2/10)

entry picture

A flower in the darkness;

You chose the light not me.

Little did I know,

I would find myself surrounded

by words of another language.

I dwelt in my cave

You hid beneath your garments;

Yes, we were right for one another.

A poem for you, my darling

in a form you should recognise

But all the same, no superior emotion

Love no greater, no more powerful.

I dwell in my cave, oh pretty one

You are a flower in the darkness

Stems full of hemlock;

Yet I hold on tightly to the roots.

Your are a flower in the darkness

You are not nectar to the bee

Stems full of hemlock;

Poison weakens me.

For what it's worth, my flower

For the time outside my redbrick cave

For the touch of soft skin between only us

I must thank you.

Now return to the darkness, my lotus

I'll return to my cave

Never again say, 'I love you!'

And in a poisoned love; I shall never be your slave.

Yep, that was me. Haven't used that email address in ages though. I still write - not for anything other than fun, though. Others from that course do it professionally, must be nice to have that kind of confidence.

Hi Laura M,

Saskia's Ghost? Or perhaps another Laura. Are you still writing?

I can't seem to locate you even when I select your name. Send me your details via the inbox if you can message me.

I don't remember shades of blue, but I was on Messenger. It was a long time ago.

Hi Laura,

Well, you knew me.... but I never knew myself: still learning. Perhaps you're the Messenger person who taught be about the depth of blue - I recall that.

Very raw. Stems full of hemlock is especially good.

(Did you go to JMU and graduate in 2003? If so, I know you.)

This really affected me emotionally.
I see where you are coming from. In reply to your own comment, i suppose it depends on the type of poison used as to whether or not the poisoned can forgive. Unfortunately, life and relationships has turmoil and tests/trials. The general idea being to overcome them. When one or other seemingly cannot do that, a line has to be drawn. Very sad and very true.
To be human is to err..

John, We have had a variety of valentines poems on WOL this year and you have added to the mix with your contribution which shows that everything doesn't need to be sloppy ! (I had a little flower like tomentil in mind but the lotus is of course a classic) Win

I guess we all have to move on, or away, sometimes. I like this poem, it has a mysterious quality to it. Hope your next flower is a sweeter and a gentler one.

There is no place for poison, be it words or actions, between two people who love one another.
