The Candle Game

entry picture

Take off your clothes and come with me

it’s Candlemas, so mote it be

pure nakedness, we’ll feel no shame

it’s time to play the Candle Game.

The men are sitting in a round,

a tinkling bell, the only sound,

a candle passed from hand to hand.

They really are a merry band.

Each woman stands behind her man

what she must do, that’s if she can,

blow out the candle as it goes

from hand to hand. The woman knows

that if she blows the candle out

then she can wave her scourge about

and playfully she’ll catch her man

and lightly beat him if she can.

But tonight I’ve only you,

we’ll celebrate it, just we two

I have my scourge, my wand, my flame.

Come join me in the Candle Game!

happy Imbolc

Hi Ann, I've emailed you the version we used for the NXNW 'Illuminate' exhibition. Hope you like it. It helps to listen through headphones.
