Ashes

So here we are, two strangers with a story

One lost and found, the other flying high

A life apart, a love behind. Sad glory.

Two burnt survivors celebrating life

You try to steal the heart you failed to borrow

Time shows its teeth stained badly with regret

Pawned for a sin, unbathed in her tomorrow

Your soul's for sale for reasons to forget

And do I know how long it never took you

Not to return to where we don't belong

I thought you knew. Turns out I never knew you.

I sang along. Turns out the key was wrong.

When love is dead you live for new believers

But when I dream of you, I think of someone else

You spent yourself to prove I was your illness

It's not the scars you can't escape. It is my face.
