Always Yesterday

Always Yesterday

I saw you yesterday,
only for the briefest moment;
when you thought nobody was watching.
Your smile slipped and your shoulders drooped;
it was only the briefest moment,
when you thought nobody was watching.

I saw you yesterday.
You flinched when we embraced;
you thought I would not notice,
when you quickly pulled away.

The last time I saw you,
 we tenderly embraced.
A pungent sourness invaded my nostrils;
I gagged..and hoped you did not notice.

Now as I look upon your face,
fixed forever in a grimace.
Belly swollen.
Lifeless, empty.
I hope you did not notice.

To me; it is always, only yesterday.

A great poem embracing our love for our parents and the sadness of old age creeping up on them.My parents frequently walk into my brain with happy memorable visits when I see pictures to remind of them spread around the house.

Thank you for the likes and comments everyone.
Brian, Don..it is about my visits from Ireland to UK to see my mum who was battling lung cancer from age 63..she was beautiful and strong she wanted to be in control until the end which meant she suffered more than she needed to. This is about those moments she could not hide..
I am always trying to immortalise my parents in my writing. I think we writers often do. ?
