My Halloween

The leaves are beginning to turn,

The nights are getting longer,

It’s getting colder outside,

It must be October.

There’s a knock at the door,

I am frozen still,

I don’t want to answer it,

But I know someone will.

There’s a fear in me,

Like a fire inside,

I don’t want to look,

But I can’t close my eyes.

I see them at the door,

I sit motionless and stare,

Children all dressed up,

Like little nightmares.

I am terrified,

But I can’t let them see,

So I sit at the window,

And smile constantly.

Another knock at the door,

Answer if you dare,

‘Trick or treat!’, I hear them say,

Give candy or be scared.

I look out the glass,

And I see others like me,

Watching as all the monsters,

Frightfully fill the streets,

Vampires, witches,

More ghosts than you have ever seen,

I AM A PUMPKIN,

And this is my Halloween!
