Dear Society

Dear society,
You don’t see the floods of tears behind my bedroom door
Or the way I gasp for breath desperately wanting more.

Dear society,
You see the cuts on my wrist that I try to shield
And no, its not just for attention ‘cus I wish I could be healed.

Dear society,
You don’t see the texts I’m sent
The ones with the unapproving and self-deprecating content.

Dear society,
You see the way I avoid eye contact and move to avoid conversation
Because I can’t pretend to be happy for such a long duration.

Dear society,
You don’t see the long night thoughts
Or how you’ve made me feel so unforgivably distraught.

Dear society,
You see the way my body hangs there pale and bland
As you shake your head and say “I just don’t understand”
