Portrait of a Café

The last drops of the sweet tea

in the bottom of the glass

seem to have a message.

Telling me to go refill it, most likely.

But it also shows me a work of art.

The dregs of the glass are hidden under the ice,

much like how our true selves are hidden under

those people we pretend to be.

Every day a new lie

to tell them.

Every day a new lie told

to you.

The day is warm and sunny,

with a few fluffy cumulus clouds overhead.

The bright umbrella in the center of the table

makes a nice centerpiece.

The dark gray table

has an interesting swirl design in it.

The light bricks on the ground

are a pleasure to look at.

It seems like this place was taken

straight from an artist’s painting.

We all need to see the world from a different angle,

whether it be through another’s poem,

a painting,

a story,

a photograph,

or even the dregs of your glass of tea,

it makes a difference

to see the world from a different angle.

You can solve the problems

you once thought were impossible.

You can right the wrongs

you have previously made.

You can answer the questions

that once were unanswerable.

You can change the world

by staring into the depths of a drained

glass of tea.

Who knew?

I know, right? Tea is great. I just had a random streak of inspiration and I came up with this. Thank you for the feedback. It’s always helpful!

Top notch poetry here. Excellent title and substance. Plus, who doesn't love tea?
