year of the jackal

Persephone, darling child

do not embrace the cold

as though it were your only home--

do not allow the earth to swallow

the burgeoning seed that dwells sleeping.

Winter is run amok and the suckling

is dying, unidentifiable

like food for jackals.

But, surely, Revolution will not forever prevent

the turn of another Age for the sake

of forbearance and loving patience

to suffer in silence the hiding

of Hades in His prolonged season of solace.

Good morning, David,

I find these types of origin myths just fascinating. I had a conversation some months ago with my father about creation myths and he made a statement that, although it seems almost intuitive considering our modern body of knowledge, really put ancient religion and its adherents into perspective for me. He simply said that these myths were the equivalent of science within their Age. We have an innate drive toward reason and to explain the natural phenomena to which we are subject so, much like children, we are prone to imaginings which only make sense in the absence of further information.

Anyhow, that's that. On a personal level, we each seem to go through seasons of a sort. I wanted to capture a bit of that, too.

Thanks, all, for having a read..looks like it's going to be a beautiful day here in the States--hope it's the same for each of you across the Atlantic.

Rachel

PS
For anyone with an interest, I was reading this just a couple of weeks ago..

Although not exactly relevant to mythology, any reading on noogenesis does seem to lend to forming a proper perspective of the complexities of our universe--some of us think we know so much because we just don't know how much there is to know...
