Ravenscar- The Town That Never Was

entry picture

The Town That Never Was

A  Victorian scheme that at the time seemed like a dream come true

Perched on high cliffs she looks out over the North Sea

Reminising about plans for a seaside town that would never be

Her peak forming the south cheek of the bay

Providing a pinnacle of splendour along the rugged Cleveland Way

Her railway track now just a cinder there and back crunch of distant days

Past visions of coaches rolling backwards on the rails they fail to ascend

Struggling to wend their way up the sharp incline of her magnificent contours

Her raven beauty is unsurpassed and will last beyond the dreams.....

of the town that never was

Christine, I used to live in Cloughton and walk up the old railway line to Ravenscar - great walk - and have a coffee in the hotel. Stunning place with, as you remind us, a sad history. What were those Victorians thinking? 7
