"The Watcher"

My lip has been chewed off;
your words, carved well into my bones.
I concede, I had given myself entirely
to an unquenchable longing.

You were astonishing -
some glimmer of Moon's depth -
and my toes found their way through shadow and bramble
to feel in the shallow reaches of your arcane lake-
only if for a moment.

Swam in dreams of what it must taste like
to belong to this earthly palace of fragrance;
this haven of hidden song wherein past quietly dances.

Were you born to utter beauty?

Leaving was a bird
and I knew to eloign-
afoot forbidden ground I surely was.
I fled, but took a stone;
a stone that whispered your name in poem.

I now confide in it, held deep in my palm.
as from behind this rampart I watch your fog
crawl slowly into the skyline...

a rising dawn of ache.
