Surreal Art, Magical Poetry At Tate Modern, London

Led by award-winning poet Pascale Petit

Mondays 11 February 2008 – 17 March 2008, 18.30–20.00

Starting in Poetry and Dream, then working in the Duchamp, Man Ray, Picabia exhibition, this six-week course invites you to write magical poetry from surreal art. Creative writing exercises will be offered to respond to these innovative artists and free the imagination. We will explore some of their techniques, such as collage, the use of chance, readymades, and unexpected juxtapositions of images, to inspire new poems that disturb, surprise and transform.

This course is open to both beginners and experienced writers.

Pascale Petit has published four prize-winning poetry collections and was twice shortlisted for the TS Eliot Prize. A Next Generation Poet, she has been Poetry Editor of Poetry London and tutors at Oxford University and Middlesex University where she is the Royal Literary Fund Fellow.
