Daddy's Girl

For as long as I can remember,

you were always there for me when I needed you,

You would always make me feel better when I was hurt.

You were my protecter, my best friend, my dad.

Late afternoon naps, cakes on my birthday, even always sharing whatever you had with me

meant the most to me.

You've taught me so much that has made me apart of who I am today,

for that I can't thank you enough.

I was also very naive growing up,

in my eyes you could do no wrong.

Little did I know you were fighting your own demons,

while trying to protect me from mine.

When you went away I'd never felt a hurt so bad,

I became angry, rebellious, and depressed.

I was mad at you but I would never tell you to your face,

I was a daddy's girl and I could never break your heart.

To hear you apologize for past mistakes that took you out of my life,

I felt like my heart felt less cold, replaced with the warmth of forgiveness,

and the love between a father and his daughter.

A daddy's girl I will forever be, there's no other love like it.
