Pro-articulated Ladders

PRO-ARTICULATED LADDERS

(for those who feel the shopping catalogues overstate their products.

Insomnia wakes the dreamer,

 Blinking through double-glazed eyes,

 Up from the warmy bed

She searches winter’s frosty skies.

Padding across carpeted floors,

 Past polished dresser

And out of the door,

 She carries her pro-articulated ladder.

Up against the eves they go,

With heated gloves and bunion protectors,

In the ultimate winter boots,

She’s  equipped with solar reflectors.

She climbs the heavens

Into the stars

With Dupers of Shoppers

Catalogued ladders.

In eleven locking positions

She reaches each constellation,

 Rearranging the pattern

To allow the cleaning of Saturn.

Changing starry lights to everlasting bulbs

On ladders  cost effective

 She polishes moons mirrors

Until they’re highly reflective.

Then, sitting on a bonus platform,

She shakes her feather duster-

So falling parts of remnant stars

Create a luminous new cluster.

Your ideas are novel, and crafted with much wit. I love the little pokes of 'current' reality (haha) like 'changing starry lights to everlasting lightbulbs' - really hilarious.

What a fab poem! I used to have one of those articulated ladders... I sent for it out of the said catalogue so I wouldnt have to get any more decorators in. Unfortunately what they fail to tell you is that they weigh more than a ten ton truck and are completely useless unless youre Mr. Universe!!!!
I love the idea of the sleepless housewife polishing the heavens.... not that we see many stars these days, but the idea is lovely!

This reminds me of putting up the Christmas decs and discovering they don't do what it says on the box. Or they might if only we had the means to reach the sky at night. :-)

Can't beat those little luxuries like ladders though can we? Not to mention the cozy slippers on thick carpets on a winter night. mmmmh.

Janet.
