Write to Speak

entry picture

Yorkshire's first theatre based spoken word night will be returning to the studio space at Hull Truck theatre on Wednesday 9th December featuring Byron Vincent and Molly Naylor, hosted by Joe Hakim and Mike Watts.

Edgy, dynamic and sometimes shocking, Write to Speak will challenge and entertain - leave your preconceptions at the door!

Slam champion Byron Vincent was (poorly) educated within the cloying conurbation of various northern sink estates. His flowery name and love of language ensured that his journey was a challenging one. Never a defeatist he fought back with poetry. This was a terrible strategy and he regularly got his head kicked in.

Byron is a regular at many of the UK’s most prestigious music and literary events including, Cheltenham festival of literature, Oxford literature festival, Glastonbury festival of performing arts, Latitude festival and Bristol Poetry festival. He has performed at venues as diverse as London’s Whitechapel gallery and Leeds /Reading festival’s alternative stage.

He has appeared on BBC3’s 'The Verb' alongside Roger McGough and Ian McMillan and BBC Radio 4's Bespoken Word. He has shared the bill with such luminaries as John Cooper Clarke, John Hegley, Simon Armitage and Patti Smith. He is currently in the throes of preparing for three collaborative national tours as well as being involved in numerous live literature, writing, film and radio projects.

'Byron Vincent was born to be a poet. A consummate performer, achingly funny, He’s the brightest new star on the block." Heidi Stephenson " Apples and Snakes.

'Looks and sounds like he could easily have stumbled off an Arctic Monkeys tour bus' Bristol Evening Post

Molly Naylor is a poet, scriptwriter and performer. She has written and directed two plays, 'Press Escape to Continue' and 'Goodbye Friday', on the London Fringe: and is currently writing a radio drama for the BBC.

Molly was recently awarded a place on Escalator, a professional development scheme funded by Arts Council East, through which she is writing her first solo spoken word show, 'There Will Be Glamour'. Molly also works as a puppeteer for 'The Flying Buttresses' theatre company, and, independently, as a creative workshop practitioner.

The show starts at 8pm, and tickets cost £5 and are available from Hull Truck Box Office on 01482 323638
