imagination

In my imagination

I was always the captain of the ship

Smooth sophisticated

unruffled

Quick on the draw

Could shoot a gun from a spinning car

Always make the hit

Swift of foot, mind and lips

Eyes of an eagle

Ears of a bat

I could shoot a fly in mid flight

Make a secret camp

Build a tent out of an old bed sheet

Win a duel

A tournament

Spin a fast ball

Score the winning goal

Fly an aeroplane

Ride a horse

A bike

Drive a tractor

A tank

A London bus

Wrestle an alligator

Charm a snake

Scare a bear

Punch a lion

Quieten a broncing buck

Lead the final victory charge

Come out unscathed

Die a thousand deaths

But always survive

Roll and fall jump and glide

Slide under moving cars

Shoot any sort of gun and reload in mid air

Win the war

Tame the wild west

And all before

The call for

‘dinner on the table now’

◄ Sun top table bare

Bless you Tia , I am glad this poem made a favourable impression. I do have a remarkable memory at times for the most seemingly insignificant detail. But it meant a lot to me at the time.

This is lovely- thank you for taking me back to my childhood! Although, to be fair, I never really lost my vivid imagination. It is something I have nurtured and loved throughout my life, and something I'm proud of still! In any case, this is spot on, and captures my childhood and memories excellently!
Thank you for the memories!

Thanks to Ray, Rachel and Colin for commenting and David and Micheala for liking this. I wasn't sure to begin with whether this was tad to boyish, but perhaps not. But this takes me back to my childhood and realising I had a rich sense of imagination even then. I remember on at least one occasion playing quite happily when dinner was announced breaking into my small world. yet there is still a part of me that will forever be a child I am pleased to say even if I haven't retained much of the innocence.
cheers
Martin

following Rachel and Ray - that innocence lost, your childhood has been served. If only we could all retain some semblance of wide-eyed wonder without getting caught up in the shitstorm of adulthood.

very much enjoyed this Martin.

Kinda' like Ray, this has me thinking of a prolonged adolescence. At what time does dinner come--that time when we realize that our dreams are done and our lives' have come full circle...maybe for the fortunate of us--never.

I like this Martin in its impossible scope it is the dream of the forming testosterone , or even before that I suppose.
It's like the spine of the Hollywood action. The last line kicks into touch any lingering idea of girls.

Nice one. Ray
