don’t rock the boat

but it’s already sinking

don’t make a noise

but the silence is poisoned

sit on the fence

but it’s splintered and breaking

look the other way

but children are starving

and words taken hostage

crammed into cages

are testing their teeth

on ragged promises

until swollen with anger

nursed by rage

they eat away the edges

of your carefully constructed

sugar coated

money grabbing

nightmare

so where will you look

when the lights go down

on a world that sinks

beneath the weight of your greed

Superbly aimed and fired from the hip at all who need to hear - but do they? If it is only poets who muster up frustrations then all is lost.

Ray, with great respect for your poetry Karen.

Oof - SEARING! Bang bang bang go your bullets. I am a fan of poems that punch holes. Great poem.

This is such a telling poem Karen. I love these lines

and words taken hostage
crammed into cages
are testing their teeth
on ragged promises
until swollen with anger

I think they are the most telling of all particularly with politician's sound bites.
As David says great stuff as ever
