Silence

Hidden in the depths of ocean, concealed by the desert dunes,
sealed in mysteries and legends mocking Isis' maternal search.
Delve in corners of subconscious when deep sleep renders us inert.
Elusive and opaque it taunts us and thwarts us in our weary search.
A single moment that we crave and often contemplate upon,
but, never find it here, or there. There is no Silence anywhere.

'you can contemplate silence but you can never find it'.

Enjoyed this Nicky - Silence is something truly beautiful, especially up on the moors, with the sky for company - one other great natural phenomenon that gets ignored. Only just found this, coincidentally having just been told that a friend has had tinnitis for the last 20 years, which I'd never realised - she "suffered in silence"

Think I missed that one Graham in the 'How to be a Mum' handbook.

Very well said. Then maybe it is true that you can never find 'silence'.

Nicky, hasn't anyone ever told you? Silence is deafening!

Aha!! but can you really find the silence Janet? I search for it, coming from a household full of crazy children, and even find that there is noise in my head in my snatched quiet moments of solitude.

It's much like that conundrum - think that is the correct word, not sure, because noisy here at the moment. If a tree falls in the middle of a forest and there is no-one around to hear it for hundreds of miles, does it make a sound?

Oh yes you can!

sorry, couldn't resist it Nicky. I've discovered silence can be both beautiful and depressing depending on the mood one is in of course.

l like the poem.
