OLD TREE

You gave to me your very best old tree

Since the day i planted you

The drought has knocked you round a bit

You managed to pull through

The local kids come and swing

Upon your gnarled old limbs

A Gospel Country Group would arrive

On sunday to sing hymns

We had lots of cook out Barbeques in your

Deep shade old friend

With steak and eggs and sausages

All piled high on our plate

At Xmas time the country band

Would come with guitars and spoons

We'd lay back with a six pack

Just to listen to their tunes

Developers now are poking around with

Their eyes on my old tree

"We'll have to push him out they said

T'will be easy as can be"

So today some fellas came along with a

Dozer and a blade

To push my old tree over

So a new road can be made

Just then the big boss he arrived

Said " Touch not a single leaf"

We'll put the road a different way

I sighed loud with relief

Yes he said just leave it be

They did as they were bid

he Said " We had a tree like that at home

When i was just a kid"

Well old tree still standing now

looking smug and so serene

I'd say its leaves have also taken on

A happier shade of green..

I love a poem that picks me up and drops me in someone else's back yard. I may have said something similar to you before but you've done it again and I am grateful ?
