The First Of The Rest

you can wait so long that time begins

to stalk you like a shadow that slowly

envelopes and suffocates your being.

when it came, I felt the full force of

disconnection as a tightly clenched

hand pulled me up roots and all.

detached and vulnerable to the elements

I wandered, walking the winds of change

until hope and expectancy breathed again.

returned and embedded in life's earth,

flourishing new shoots of spring

emerged to lift up the lids of my eyes.

Thank you Col, Graham and David, for reading and commenting. Thanks for the suggestion Graham, you've made me think, but I wanted the first verse to set the scene. I'll keep looking and thinking. Thanks David, 'the spring will tell all' - perfectly worded. Thanks Col, already feel I'm heading upwards...desperately trying to keep my feet on the ground ?

Gentlemen, thanks again to you all.

Well timed springtime allegory of rebirth, new growth, another chance to blossom etc. I think the first verse would have been improved if in the first person, like those following.

Good work.
