Submersible

hands to the hull
expecting your tapping, your ghosts
late at night I hunt you through the dark

so many fates wrapped up
in your airless little world
it is hard to believe in you
tappings, knockings
are you alive in there?
what do you hear?

wonder about the tide
is it stormy where you are
serene at the bottom, awaiting lift
toward the light

when your fate is in others' hands
serenity reigns
you are at peace,

whatever
storms fly above

at night I dream I am in there with you
gasping for escape

I re-read this after reading the comments and finding understanding and realising just how good the imagery is.

I think the title is terrific and adds a certain openness to interpretation which is no bad thing. The opening line is so very strong - I keep getting drawn back to reading just those four words.

Thanks.

You know, Suzi, I would never have guessed pregnancy. I was fascinated as if I were inside a submarine..science-fiction fantasy, you could say. A pretty thrilling read and a fantastic analogy, come to find.

Cheers me dear ? I did indeed write it when pregnant with my daughter; it was quite an anxious pregnancy for various reasons and there were a lot of late nights spent wondering who she would be, who I would be when she arrived.

Another great piece. Makes me think of pregnancy, but what an original take on it. Some quite scary imagery in there, for me at least.

Enjoyed this very much ?
