The Dead Mermaid

entry picture

The heron is strangled;

a lice of plastic and newspeak

is lucid on the feathers.

the river is corseted and oars are tangled

with naked dice and beaks

tethered

for the sea -

the barbed wire scorns the lighthouse

for wanting to be free.

The bone of the whale

is brittle and when the shrimp collapse

the world strikes hell for me.

My feet are bound up as dyslexic tail,

and my rock is cruel with no love

or family tree.

The ocean is a desert of

tears

for the men murdered me.

Daggers and daggers

plunge in

and everybody laughs

for they are royalty.

Yes , they enjoy the kill. But then the same happens to any animals we eat...pigs ..sheep etc. Worth remembering that we can survive without meat.

Very interesting, Marianne ... runs fast and deep with unusual comparisons. What is 'teathered'? I looked it up but couldn't find it. 'The river is corseted' is superb.
