She Loved Me Once

Upon her chest I laid.

Her heart’s rhythm off-beat.

The repose I craved.

Her lung’s breathing discreet.

She held me.

I suffocated,

My tragedies liberated with violence.

I released,

Her fingers combed, softly through my hair.

And then silence.

Not a whisper or care.

The beating of our hearts syncopated.

The tempo slowed, this cadence we shared.

She loved me once, of this I’m sure.

My heart still beats, some pine yet remains.

She held me once, now let go,

And I, stuck in time, our memory, fresh pains.
