Migration

Their collective decision is made
No words detected, but a powerful call
From within and a shift in the weather;
It's time to leave - to begin the mighty migration

250km of harsh terrain lie ahead
From the Chobe river to the hopeful paradise of Nxai Pan
Open plains, dense forrests
And all too many enemies lie in wait

Packs of wild dogs and hyenas
Leopards, snakes and vultures en route
And hungry lions prowling at journeys end
All have zebras on their menu

Socks, a pregnant mare with plain white legs
Joins Wishbone and his harem
2000 zebras are on the move, but not as one
They make their transit in smaller zeals and dazzles

All the while, a dedicated team of scientists and cameramen
Follow and share their passion with us
Technology and human intelligence
Working together for a better understanding and future

The drama builds, a small miracle is revealed
As Socks' foal is born close to the green pan
With enough food to give him the best start in life
And Wishbone stands on guard with an air of pride
