THE LONELY DRINKER

One man's in, another drinking

sharing a recent story

thousandth hand across the land

such is the speed of news we share

 another molecule of bonding

the drinking opening up the scene

into the time they have to spare

give us this day our daily bread

before the rising yeast goes slack

another way to move the human spirit on.

Just out of sight a man is alone

with his pint alight in the slumming sun

and no-one sees his downcast stare

witht the weight of this thoughts, his matted hair

As you mine your comedy gold

his story will remain untold

while fate casts down its ancient runes

and depression plays its endless tunes

the road diverging the molecules merging

another way to move the spirit on.

You stay within your comfort zone

the same old beer, the same old cheer

your bonds remain, you stay united

and always exclude the uninvited

somehow the spirit must always move along.

an odd one this. i certainly see the likeness to my piece, the self imposed barriers we put up to keep us safe are indeed sad and fascinating at the same time. its a good topic for a poem and one that I imagine plenty of poets have plenty to say about. Its a good character study and an interesting piece.
