Join Academi at 2.00 pm on Wednesday 17 June as it announces the winners of the prestigious 2009 Cardiff International Poetry Competition. The names of the winners will be revealed at an official ceremony aboard cruise vessel Seren y Bae. The ceremony will be held afloat and includes a wine reception on arrival plus a 90-minute luxury cruise around the Bay. Prize-winners will be announced by the National Poet of Wales, Gillian Clarke, in the company of Welsh writers, previous winners, local literary enthusiasts and dignitaries. Gillian Clarke will read some of her own work from her term as National Poet. Gillian was Cardiff’s first Capital Poet in 2005. There will also be a special performance from Cardiff poet Ifor Thomas.

Attendees will be among the first to discover who judges Ian McMillan and Kurt Heinzelman have chosen to sail away with first prize of £5,000. With the continued support of Cardiff Council Academi Chief Executive Peter Finch will also be launching the 2010 Cardiff International Poetry Competition and announcing the next two big name judges.

Tickets cost just £7.00 / £6.00 (Academi Members and Associates). Tickets are £5.00 for entrants to the 2009 competition. Includes a 90-minute cruise around Cardiff Bay and wine reception on arrival.
