The 'Pool is Cool

entry picture

My observation on Liverpol European City of Culture 2008

The 'Pool

The pool is cool.

From the lively beat in the caverns

of liver challenging Mathew Street

to the rich heaps of scrap in the dock,

the pool is cool.

Slaves gave the graces to stand by the river,

The wave of Cunard and the Star turned to pearls.

A mighty, rich city so boastful in grandeur,

knew poverty when the foul trade was gone.

The pool is cool.

From our street of Hope with art and heaven

to the throbbing bop at Baby Cream.

Dickie Lewis peers or leers

at a stumbling Lime street dawn.

The pool is cool.

Greeter of potato exiles,

waving some to world brand new.

FTP shout Billy's boys,

the Dingle rings to hatred's yell.

The pool is cool.

From sweetest Tate with Albert and tired Adelphi tea.

On to grab a Grafton before dawn.

Off you cop, to mattress flop, sleep satisfied and warm.

The pool is cool.

Sons and fathers lost forever

in grim Atlantic's icy grip

Johnny Walker's boys and others

giving all and leaving love.

The pool is cool.

Big Dig stripped the old and shabby.

A culture fest so well conceived.

Wealth of talent soon delivered

Mersey Beatlers gig again.

The pool is cool.

Oh! Eight's the date.

I really wish I had been able to see more of your fair country. I had really wanted to see Liverpool, but was talked out of it. I enjoyed my 2 weeks there, but was not ready for the $ exchange and had a mini crisis, due to cash flow. I hope to go back there...soon would be great but with the dollars worth @ 33 cents. I cant see it happening for a while. as it was the last time I had a months pay just to go and stay that short time. was not the smartest thing I have ever done, but I felt a calling to go, so I did. bravo on this one...great poem!
