What Is Love

When you kiss me and the worst parts of me perish

And only the best parts of myself regenerate
That's love

When you see my demons and the contours of my shame
And still think I am brave
That's love

When you lend me money even though you can't afford it
And I don't have enough to pay you back
That's love

When I turn to sand in your arms
And you sculpt me back into glass
That's love

When I cry and tell you I'm weak
And you tell me I am strong because I can produce tears instead of anger
That's love

When you look into my eyes and see oceans of beauty that transcend my surface
That's love

When the florets of my heart flush with the color of your compassion
That's love

When it is my word against the corroboration of others
And you still believe mine
That's love

When a goddess of igneous beauty
Seduces you towards her inferno, and you deny her
That's love

When I traverse with you through infinite forms of life
And we become eternal and shapeless
That's true love
