The Twisted Teapot Cafe sadly has had to leave its premises earlier than planned.
To support them, I am privileged to host a Spoken Word extravanganza.
Come along to hear first-time performers, young and not so young, new and experienced, poets, storytellers, beatboxers and spoken word artists on the 30th of May 2015 at Sugar&Spice Boscombe, BH1 4HB.

£4 on the door (20% to support The Twisted Teapot setting up new ventures)

With support from LitUp!

Headlining the evening are Simon McCormack and Lucy Furlong

Simon's performance poetry follows the shrapnel and ricochet of exploded narrative; smurfs battle with super-heroes, a pebble in the shoe leads to salvation, and Scrabble takes metaphysics for a wander.
His work has appeared in magazines including Poetry Review, Under the Radar, New Walk, The Echo Room, Magma and The Rialto.

Lucy Furlong’s writing has been widely published, and last year one of her poems was nominated for a Pushcart Prize and a Forward Prize. Her poetry map, Amniotic City was reviewed in The Guardian newspaper.  Her first collection, clew, was recently published by Hesterglock Press, and is available from @[NjQyMTgzOTU5MjA4MTA3Omh0dHBcYS8vd3d3Lmx1Y3lmdXJsb25nLmNvbS86Og==:www.lucyfurlong.com]

Matthew Miles Chambers
Matt Miles is a poet born in America, bred in Dorset and come of age in London. Playing with words with childlike fascination he is obsessed with rhyme and wordplay. Recently returned to Bournemouth he is trying to explore and expand his style and influences, finding a new voice in the shattered pieces of the slams he used to attend. Taking guidance from hip hop and punk he is hoping to make his words sing with rhythm and rhyme.

Editor, Writer and Ruiner of plans at @[NjQyMTgzOTU5MjA4MTA3Omh0dHBcYS8veWFja21hZ2F6aW5lLmNvbS86Og==:http://yackmagazine.com/]

Liz McGee

Liz  is a lover of words and art, and sometimes both together. She likes reading and writing poetry that obeys the rules and poetry that doesn't. Liz writes mainly to amuse but her words have a serious undercurrent supporting community and environmental issues and being a voice for the older generation. Liz enjoys the challenge of performance poetry and has taken part in Open Mike events and Poetry Slams around Dorset, and won the last Purbeck Art Weeks Poetry Slam. She is an active member of Poole Poetry group and Speakeasy as well as a long term member of Poole & East Dorset Art Society and has run poetry workshops at the poetry group and for the National Trust at Kingston Lacy.
Liz retired a few years ago from working with adults and children with learning difficulties and now theoretically has more time for all sorts of other creative activities. She lives in Poole and finds writing and painting a way to “hold the moment” in this beautiful part of the world.

Kate Kingswood

Kate realised she had a knack for writing in recent years when the proverbial turd hit the fan in her personal life.
Much of her earlier work is rooted in negativity and anger. Much of her recent work is lighter and brighter. One thing she is proving to be a dab hand at is keeping it real.
A regular at Bournemouth's Freeway Poets nights, she has been described as gritty and mesmerizing in terms of her writing skills. She covers subjects ranging from domestic violence to the joys of parenthood, tells poetic tales about disgruntled horoscope readers to contentment from within and sings about personal struggles that could have been experienced by any of us.
This versatile singer, poet and writer is one to watch.

Semyon Vesnin

The stunning Semyon Vesnin, a young artist, whose bilingual poetry in English and Russian touches upon the subjects of spiritual numbness, emotional paradoxes and the loneliness of people.
Surrounded by a halo of beauty, his work is composed with notes of cold morality and social diagnosis.
It is singular poetry that invites you to dream of high concepts and eternal themes, yearning for the ideal, in concentric circles drawing you ever closer in.

Ben Johnson

Ben Johnson is a New Milton-based poet with work published online and in print at Ink, Sweat and Tears, The Rain, Party and Disaster, Ghazal Pages, Kwartalnik, Antiphon, Not Only the Dark, Making Contact.
In 2013 Ben was one of three poets to win the Fermoy International Poetry Prize and more recently his poem 'Selkie' was Most Highly Commended in the Bristol Poetry Prize 2015.

Myriam San Marco is a French performance poet living and running several open-mic events in Bournemouth as Word Maker. Her words have been published in Boscombe Revolution, Interpreter's House, Message in a Bottle, Oddity Magazine and I am not a silent poet.
Myriam is an activist poet; supporting and developing others through creative writing workshops, promoting events and mentoring. When performing, her poems hurt and heal: extracting illicit emotions from the undiscovered belly of the scrapheap and exploring the dark disturbances of the soul. Her softly-spoken words will make you wonder if your entrails haven't become your extrails.

Paul Point:

Paul is a poet, writer, reader and super-talented creature whose work is surrounded with ripples of excitement that has -in 2015, inevitably spilled over onto stages and platforms all along the South Coast. He centres on a unique blend of theatrical storytelling and performance poetry. Currently hosting and organising The Chocolate Poetry Club and also recently listed as one of the Top 50 new writers on '@[NjQyMTgzOTU5MjA4MTA3Omh0dHBcYS8vVGhlUHJvc2UuY29tLzo6:TheProse.com]' . With growing support and rising recognition planting waves beneath the wings of his words, his intimate stories of community and identity will move you.

Louise Shachter

Leone -  not really -  toying with idea of a stage name. -  is a performance poet and writer based in Bournemouth with incredible range, power and whimsy. Her recent film-poem about Boscombe was selected for Bournemouth Emerging Fringe Festival last year and voted Peoples Choice. Louise appeared as a guest poet at SUSU Feminist Society event Strength in Stanzas and at The English Society's event Poetry of The Street recently.

O's Price

Originally emerging out of Southampton's music scene as a member of the hip hop band Route2Roots, O's Price aka O-SKI is now based in Bournemouth and has appeared at Freeway Poets and also as one half of his production project, Unity One. He will be performing a solo set this time, bringing conscious lyrics and blend of  beatbox funk with a vocal only looper set.

LeopardprintLion

Sam aka Leopardprintlion is your local non local poet. Hailing from oop north, with a strong Lancashire accent, and now residing on the sunny south coast. You can usually find her people watching in a cafe somewhere eating cake. Last year she performed at Purbeck Folk Fest, New Forest Folk Fest and Camp Bestival as a warm up act for Scroobius Pip and Polarbear. Currently busy bringing poetry to the visitors of Kingston Lacy with her workshops. You can find her work on FB/leopardprintlion or on YouTube/leopardprintlion.
