The Little Flower Boy

The Little Flower Boy

The little boy he found a seed that may become a flower.

He took it home to keep it safe within an ivory tower

He placed it on the window ledge in bedding made of soil

Then gave it food and shaded it so sunlight would not spoil

One day he saw a sprout of green, week later, tiny leaf

Hopes that once where dreams to him gave birth to true belief

He watered it and soon enough so strongly there it stood

His little heart began to swell, when gently formed one bud

The vision of the flower he saw within that seed so small

Was happening before his eyes, as stem became so tall

Then when the flower opened he watched on in pure delight

He tended to it every day stared into it each night.

Their spirits touched as if as one for the first time he felt whole

That little seed he nurtured, had now somehow, touched his soul

But as the boy grew older he then lessened his concern

Important work became his life, so flower waited turn

He watered it just now and then and sometimes he forgot

Just kept it there upon the shelf within its tiny pot

No longer did the flower grow and slowly did it wilt

Too important now to notice her and too busy to feel guilt

The flower longed so for the day the boy would notice her

But even when he was around, he wasn’t really there

Importance of the world outside had blinded him to beauty

So even when he tended her such acts where born of duty

And yes there seemed important things outside that ivory tower

But there’s nothing more important than to take care of a flower

So men forget and flowers too that love is death of duty

Another thing is lost the too, we fail to see their beauty

So if you have a flower then please see it with new eyes

Be true to it, protect it and don’t ever tell it lies.

Let it know that its important, let your caring be your joy

Maybe that day, a man will flower, from a little boy.

I like this theme - and the touch of Liverpudlian tenderness.
