The returned

They twisted her

From iron
And how she thrashed
For she was
Not from this world
And was more
Reluctant
To return
Than they gave
Her credit for
They scarred
And burned her
A warning
To the spirit world
A warning
To all
Who might try
To come back
And she screamed
Her silence
And her anger
But it was they
Who would not
Listen
As they snapped
Her ankles
And tore out her
Tongue
And as she
Burnt
And the flames
Licked the life
From her skin
It was her
Eyes
That flashed
With fire
And she
Who had been reluctant
To arrive
In the first place
Vowed never
To leave
For these people
So alien to her
Had such
Tortured
Misunderstood
Will
That she must
Return
Time and time
Again
Until they learned
Or at least
So as they never
Forgot
The darkness
They had brought
And blamed
On
Everyone
Else
